These days hackers are attacking anything and almost everything. In one incident you will not believe that hackers hacked a casino with the help of thermometer which was inside a fish tank.
With our world using so many IoT devices we are bound to expect attacks like this. Most of the IoT devices are not secured and not even encrypted.
Hackers use these IoT devices to enter into corporate network and get confidential information in their hands.
Nicole Egon, the CEO of Darktrace a cyber security firm, told the WSJ CEO in London on Thursday: “There’s a lot of internet of things devices, everything from thermostats, refrigeration systems, HVAC [air conditioning] systems, to people who bring in their Alexa devices into the offices. There’s just a lot of IoT. It expands the attack surface and most of this isn’t covered by traditional defenses.”
Egon then shared a memorable case of his career where an unnamed casino was hacked via thermometer in a lobby aquarium.
Due to this reason there is a high risk of security in buying and using IoT’s without considering their security measures.
